MORNING GLORY MINISTRIES God's Abundant Love Abides 2010
|
"I had a grand time, didn't you Gracie my "sweetie pie" at the Black Tie G.A.L.A."
|
Morning Glory Ministries continued its mission
as a “DREAM BUILDER FOR YOUTH as it
celebrated its 2nd Annual Black Tie G.A.L.A.
“Reach for the Stars” on Friday, September
24, 2010 at the Waterfront Place Hotel,
Morgantown, WV.
God’s Abundant Love did Abide as memories
of days gone by were called to mind. There
was a sense of nostalgia in the air as great
grandparents, grandparents, parents and
children entered the banquet hall for an
evening of inspiration and fellowship.
The evening began with a welcome by Pastors
Russell & Sylvia Medley and their Buppets
Granny Grace and Grandpa Mercy in
observance of the theme for the evening
honoring Seniors and Grandparents. Mr.
Arthur & Mrs. Constance Dilworth, Sr., the
parents of Pastor Sylvia Medley traveled from
Greensboro, NC to join in the festive occasion.
They are an active 76 and 77 years old
respectively.
A commemorative video of September 11,
2001, was presented by Pastor Russell E.
Medley, Jr., USAF Retired. This date is special
to Morning Glory Ministries not only because of
the tragedy that America suffered on that day
but because it is the day that Morning Glory
Ministries while attempting to FedEx the
application to petition the IRS for its 501©3 tax
exempt status found that the FedEx planes had
been grounded due to the terrorist attacks on
the United States. The paperwork was faxed to
the IRS that same day and the tax exempt
status was granted on December 18, 2001.
Pastor Sylvia Medley has accepted the divine
call to keep the dreams of young people with
talent and a dream alive in spite of this great
tragedy against our great nation, through
Morning Glory Ministries. With the support of
her husband, Pastor Russell Medley, Sr. Pastor
of the Scotts Run Community Church, Shriver,
WV and the Board of Directors of Morning
Glory Ministries; the dream is alive and well as
evidenced by the work that has been
accomplished over the past nine years.
The generations connected as the nostalgic
and vintage sounds of Mr. Bobby Nicholas
accompanied by John at the keyboard and the
beautiful music of Stephen Shutts and
Maryjoanna Grisso filled the room while quests
dined sufficiently before continuing the evening’
s program.
The magnificent “Gaither” sounds of the River
City Boys of Riverside Apostolic Church
blessed all present as they prepared the way
for a message brought by Pastor Nathaniel
Hudson "Reconnecting the Disconnection"
between the generations.
Miss Christiana Everetts, 16 years old recipient
of the William David Dilworth Memorial Grant
for Piano initiated by her Grandfather, Jack
Poling; took her skill to another level as she
played and her piano teacher, Mrs. Robin
Flaingan looked on approvingly. She is also
this year’s recipient of Morning Glory Ministries'
Director’s Choice - Rising Star Award.
The Spiritual Dancers – Sharon Faye, Grace
Faye, Ebony Jeter, Aleiah, Taleeah Goote,
Precious Echoles, Janyra Howard, Lahiah
Wells, Jade Turner and Ajaniah West of the
Temple of Christ Church whose ages ranged
from 10 to 15 years of age glowed like angels
in their beige with gold trim flowing gowns.
They took to the dance floor moving to the beat
of inspirational gospel music.
Jeremy Stanley wowed us with his Gospel
juggling skills as he demonstrated to young
and old through his craft the consequences of
right and wrong choices.
Many thanks to the West Virginia University
Center for Civic Engagement and the student
volunteers- Kayla Smith, Kate Hendrix, Sarah
Danno, Linden Nelson, Dylan Chesler, Kayla
Vanhooser, Ali Dubois, Jessica McCleery,
Alexander Page, and Freddie Brouse for their
help setting up.
Special thanks to the young men of the Temple
of Christ Church for helping to “take down”
after the event.
For those who came early, silent auction items
were available. Many thanks to our Auction

Mrs. Sylvia Bolyard, is the winner of the essay
contest, “Why My Grandchildren are Precious
to Me.” She received gift certificates for two for
dinners at the Cracker Barrel Family
Restaurant.
Ms. Michelle Figaretti, Regional Representative
from the Governor’s Office, brought greetings
from West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin
along with an autographed picture and a WV
Historical Book.
The "script was flipped" as a special “seed” gift
($504.00) was presented to Mr. Bobby
Nicholas, Manager Developmental Programs,
WVU Children’s Hospital by Pastors Russell &
Sylvia Medley to help build a new hospital for
families of ill and injured children through the
Children’s Miracle Network.
Another special “seed” gift (210.00) was
